“My wife, Helen looked on the Liverpool FC website and saw a holiday playing footie with John Barnes. She woke me from my sick bed to tell me and at first I didn’t believe her because her dad was born in Grenada.
To be honest I hadn’t heard of the Foundation and wasn’t planning to have a holiday this year but the package was affordable and the opportunity was too good to miss.
I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of personal contact I had with Jason and my Liverpool heroes especially at the family home on the Saturday night. My first impression of Jason was that he is very approachable and family orientated and the players made myself and Helen feel at home.
With regard to the Foundation it was a real eye opener seeing the work of the Foundation at first hand and you realise how worthwhile it is when you see the smiles on the children’s faces. I definitely would get involved in anything the Foundation asked me to do.
As for the game – where do I start? It’s hard to put into words. It was a dream come true from the warm up and I didn’t stop smiling for 48 hours! I had a lump in my throat as I sang “You’ll never walk alone” and then it hit me – what am I doing here? To my left stood Devon Smith and Soca Banton – Calypso artist at the bandstand - I cried tears of joy as I lined up with my idols.
Since arriving back in England it still hasn’t really sunk in – my mates don’t believe me. But once again, thanks to all associated with the Foundation for making my dreams a reality”.
