In April 2007, the Jason Roberts Foundation delivered its first intensive programme of activity for young people. Delivered in Harlesden, North London, the programme targeted disaffected young men aged 15 - 18 years who attended EmPower, a Vocational Education and Enterprise unit based in Brent. Seventeen young people participated in a programme of structured activity, over a 4-week period. The programme provided:
Young people benefited from expert motivational advice and coaching from Jason Roberts on 1:1 and group sessions. Cyrille Regis and the Foundation’s highly skilled team provided additional support for the young people. |
The Jason Roberts Foundation was officially launched at Blackburn Rovers ground, Ewood Park, in May 2007. Blackburn Rovers FC, St Georges University and the High Commissioner of Grenada all supported the event. A number of Jason’s Blackburn Rovers FC team members and colleagues from the world of football were also in attendance.
The Jason Roberts Foundation delivered a programme of football coaching in Harlesden, North West London for the Brent Positive Activities for Young People programme.
The Positive Activities for Young People programme (PAYP) is a targeted programme, which has provided diversionary activities since April 2003. Young people across the country aged 8-19, who are at risk of social exclusion and community crime, are able to participate in positive activities during the school holidays and access out of school activities throughout the year. Those young people who are most at risk are encouraged to engage in learning and/or employment with key worker support.
The Foundation delivered a skills coaching programme for a 2-week period in the summer of 2007 targeting 50 young people between 9 – 12 years daily.
The young people who participated in the programme were invited to take part in a Question and Answer session with Jason, which explored Jason’s career and the importance of healthy lifestyles.
In October 2007 as part of the Brent PAYP programme, the Foundation delivered the first level of FA football qualifications for 15 young people aged 16 – 19 years in Stonebridge North West London.
The Jason Roberts Foundation charity Fundraising Gala Dinner took place on Tuesday 4th December 2007, at the Lowry Manchester.
The Foundation’s first Gala dinner provided a night of entertainment and fun and attracted personalities form the world of football and business.
VIP’s included key premier league and championship players along with Foundation sponsors Harlequin Property, St Georges University Grenada, Blackburn Rovers FC, RBS, Kleinwort Benson and Penhaligon’s.
The Jason Roberts Foundation in conjunction with the College of North West London designed, developed and is currently delivering an enrichment programme, which targets young people aged 16 – 19 years using football to as a tool to encourage, promote learning attract and retain students.

This programme will act as a pilot project and will inform the delivery of a 1-year football and sports accredited programme.
The Jason Roberts Foundation is currently working in conjunction with a local college to develop a course, which will target young people aged 16 – 18 years using football to as a tool to encourage and promote learning.
The sports focused programme will provide accredited qualifications alongside the delivery of a practical programme that encompasses key elements of learning across the sports industry with a particular focus on football. The course also aims to provide qualifications for young people to access employment.
